Smartlead Alternatives (2026): Sending Tools vs. Getting It Done for You
Smartlead is a cheap, capable cold email sender built for volume and agencies. If you're a small business without a list or a writer, here's how the alternatives compare.
Full disclosure: I'm the founder of Selamly, one of the tools below, and I'll say where it doesn't fit. Prices are from each company's own pricing page in November 2026, billed monthly unless noted.
What Smartlead is good at
Smartlead is a cold email sending platform. The Base plan is $39/month ($32 billed yearly) for 6,000 emails and 2,000 contacts a month, with unlimited email accounts and warm-up, and it isn't priced per seat or per mailbox. That's why agencies running many clients like it. There's a 14-day free trial, no card needed. Extra deliverability tooling is sold separately.
Like every sending tool, it assumes you already have the two hard parts: a list of the right people, and something worth saying to them.
Quick comparison

1. Instantly: the closest like-for-like
Instantly's Growth plan is $47/month for 5,000 emails and 1,000 uploaded contacts, with unlimited mailboxes and warm-up. Its B2B database is a separate subscription (from $47/month for 1,500 credits), so you can keep finding and sending in one place. If you're comparing pure sending tools, Smartlead and Instantly are close; pick the interface you prefer.
2. Saleshandy: sending plus some data, on a budget
Saleshandy Starter is $41/month ($34 yearly) for 2,000 active contacts and 6,000 emails a month, with unlimited mailboxes and 1,500 lead-finder credits for one user. 7-day free trial, no card.
3. Woodpecker: simple and steady
Woodpecker's Email plan works out at $39/month ($26 billed yearly) for 5,000 emails, with unlimited contacts, users and email accounts. LinkedIn is a $29/month add-on per account. Trial: 14 days or 500 cold emails.
4. lemlist: if you want LinkedIn and calls in the same sequence
lemlist starts at $69/month for email only and $109/month for multichannel (LinkedIn, calls, SMS). Data and buying signals are add-ons. It costs more, and suits teams who want detailed multi-step sequences.
5. Selamly: if the list and the writing are the problem
This is the tool I build. Selamly isn't a sender you load a list into. It's an agent that does the whole job:
- You enter your website. It works out what you sell and who your best customers are.
- It reads each candidate company's website, scores the fit, and never emails the poor fits.
- It checks daily for a reason to write now, like someone describing the problem you solve or a company hiring for the role you'd replace, and writes to those first.
- It finds the right person, verifies their work address, writes a short email and one follow-up, and brings back interested replies.
- Domains and mailboxes are bought, set up and warmed up for you.
Where it's not a fit: if you run outreach for many clients, or already have good lists and copy, Smartlead or Instantly is cheaper per email. Selamly is for people who'd otherwise not do outbound at all.
The part every sending tool leaves to you
When we built our own outbound, sending was the easy bit. Most of the work went into three things no sender does for you:
- Deciding who is worth an email. A company that doesn't fit will never reply, however good the copy.
- Finding the right person's own address. Generic inboxes like info@ are easy to find and rarely reach the person who decides.
- Having something specific to say. An email that mentions why you're writing to that company, now, gets read. A template that could go to anyone doesn't.
If you have someone to do those three, a sending tool is all you need. If you don't, that's the gap to solve first.
Which one should you pick?

How much does Smartlead cost?
Its Base plan is listed at $39/month, or $32/month billed yearly, for 6,000 emails and 2,000 contacts a month with unlimited email accounts. There's a 14-day free trial.
Smartlead or Instantly?
Both are capable senders with unlimited mailboxes and warm-up. Smartlead is a little cheaper to start and popular with agencies; Instantly sells its own lead database alongside. Pick the one whose interface you like.
Is there a Smartlead alternative that finds leads and writes emails?
Done-for-you agents like Selamly do the research, find and verify the right person, and write each email. You review the plan instead of building lists.
Do I need many mailboxes for cold email?
If you send more than a few dozen emails a day, yes: spreading volume across several warmed-up mailboxes on separate domains protects your main domain. Sending tools let you connect them; Selamly sets them up for you.
